About Katlyn
Kate Rather is a lifelong resident of Crown Point and is the owner, and Executive Chef, of Green is Good by Kate. She has over 17 years of experience in restaurants.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University in 2010. She apprenticed at Rick Bayless’ Frontera Grill and Topolobampo Restaurant, located in Chicago, IL, in 2011. She supplied catering for special events hosted by the president of Purdue University, and in 2012 Chef Kate graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York. In 2013 Chef Kate began her journey with Green is Good by Kate.
In the years since she has opened, Kate has played an essential role in supporting the community and was acknowledged for that by being named Most Influential Woman in Service & Tourism in 2018. Green is Good by Kate prepares ready-to-eat “Grab ‘n’ Go” wraps, salads, sandwiches, soups, and sides. Many of the items Chef Kate prepares are Vegan, Gluten-Free, and Allergy Friendly. The menu changes seasonally and features weekly specials. Chef Kate was determined to merge quality and freshness within a grab-n-go restaurant concept. She did just that by using all organic and locally sourced produce and meat, providing healthier options for the person on the go without sacrificing flavor.
